Surfer!

Sailor!
The Grand Master of Water, Wind and Waves, has passed away. Aloha `oe, aloha `oe!
Hobart "Hobie" Alter, born October 31, 1933, was a surfer, sailor and inventor. He was the man behind the development of the foam-and-fiberglass surfboard, creator of the Hobie Cat, and founder of the Hobie company. The company that he founded remains one of the top-selling surfboard brands of all time. Hobie was also the creator of the Hobie 33 ultralight-displacement sailboat and a mass-produced radio-controlled glider, the Hobie Hawk.

Fish On Fridays.
I know it's a stretch, but let's try and class up this two bit joint with some art. (that doesn't mean dogs playing cards or shooting pool) Mind you, the painting above reminds me of some benders I've had.

Throwback Thursday.
Where have we ended up today, Mr. Peabody? The Encinal Yacht Club in Alameda, Sherman. The sailors of this era were very confident of their skills. Notice the two in the canoe, they appear out for a day of picnicking. Nary a worry of getting wet.
You know Sherman, I get mighty parched after bouncing around the space-time thingy. So I need an adult refreshment, I hope they know how to make a Manhattan.
The WaterTribe. Expedition-Style Adventure Racing In Small Boats. (Moving Pictures)

“The purpose of WaterTribe is to encourage the development of boats, equipment, skills and human athletic performance for safe and efficient coastal cruising using minimal impact human and wind powered watercraft based on sea kayaks, canoes, and small sailboats.” ~ Chief, February 2000
Throwback Thursday.
Okay, so I'm jumping on the "Throwback Thursday" bandwagon. Hopping into the Wayback machine, we find ourselves in the distant past of 2013. Here we see two wahines learning to sail. They look like they're doing a bang up job after one lesson on the water. I wonder who their instructor is( was...I'm confused by all this space-time continuum stuff)? He must be (have been...shades of Dr. Who) top notch!
If you want to learn to sail, and live in the San Francisco Bay Area; classes begin in April. We sail out of Loch Lomond in San Rafael, so if you want put a face to this blog, sign up today. I'll be there, unless I get swallowed up whole by some rip in that space-time thingy.

Some old designs never go out of style or more importantly, lose their performance.

The Wearing Of The Green.
O Paddy dear, and did ye hear the news that's goin' round?
The shamrock is by law forbid to grow on Irish ground!
No more Saint Patrick's Day we'll keep, his color can't be seen
For there's a cruel law ag'in the Wearin' o' the Green."
I met with Napper Tandy, and he took me by the hand
And he said, "How's poor old Ireland, and how does she stand?"
"She's the most distressful country that ever yet was seen
For they're hanging men and women there for the Wearin' o' the Green."
"So if the color we must wear be England's cruel red
Let it remind us of the blood that Irishmen have shed
And pull the shamrock from your hat, and throw it on the sod
But never fear, 'twill take root there, though underfoot 'tis trod.
When laws can stop the blades of grass from growin' as they grow
And when the leaves in summer-time their color dare not show
Then I will change the color too I wear in my caubeen
But till that day, please God, I'll stick to the Wearin' o' the Green.

Wow!
Dave Anderson of Capt. Dave’s Dolphin and Whale Safari used a drone to capture this remarkable footage of dolphins, and gray whales migrating off the coast of Southern California, and a humpback whale off of Maui snuggling with her calf.
