Handles Like A Laser!

Nope,it's not Tilly!

Is that the Tillerman on the helm? Is this why he is AWOL? We'll have to send the
Shore Patrol after him, dragging him kicking and screaming back to his keyboard.
It's time for more of your stories Grand Dad!

Sailing Photo Of The Day.

E-canoe

Believe it or not this is a sailing canoe. It is the E-kanot, one of several classes of
Swedish Sailing Canoes
. Can you guess why I'm jazzed about sailing canoes?

I'll put together a photo album of different Swedish canoes in a few days.

Next up, sailing outrigger canoes. Can you say aloha brah?
Sleep tight, don't let the bed bugs bite.

Ouch!

Broken rig

The ABN Amro ran into problems during the Sydney to Hobart race.
Do you think she has some diesels running or is that jury rigged sail powering the boat?

Speaking of the Sydney to Hobart race; Goggle Earth has a live feed of the race.
Thanks to Eli Boat for the link.

Dashing through the spray
In a fearsome pirate waaay
O'er the waves we go
Laughing all the way
Bells on ships deck ring
Making spirits bright
What fun it is to laugh and sing
A pir-ate chris-tmas song tonight

Oh, jingle blades, jingle blades
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to sail
across the sea today
Jingle blades, jingle blades
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to plunder
presents on the way!

A day or two ago
I thought I'd try to find
some treasure nice and bright
and hide it by my side
The chest was big and gold
A fortune - yes a lot
We sailed it to the nearest port
And gave away the lot!

Oh, jingle blades, jingle blades
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to sail
across the sea today

Jingle blades, jingle blades
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to plunder
presents on the way!
AAArrrrrr!!!!

The whole kit and caboodle stolen from the San Francisco Sailing Group.

Have a Merry Christmas!

Now That's What I'm Talking About!

5 Meter Sailing Canoe

My brain has turned to mush and I can't stop thinking about sailing canoes. Case in point, while researching the International Canoe I stumbled across the beauty pictured in the photo above. She is the 5 Meter or C Class sailing canoe. From what I understand many IC sailors also sail the 5 Meter. She is fast ( faster than a Laser, so they claim...don't get your dander up Tillerman, I'm still looking for that cupholder.), stable, light weight (car top baby, car top) and has a simple rig. I'll take simplicity over complexity any day of the week. See the tangle of spaghetti for an example of a rigging nightmare.

Here's a little bit of info from the ACA sailing committee website:

C Class canoes are open hulls which are symmetrical, and up to 564 cm long, or about 18.5 feet. Any sail which is not more than 55 square feet nor more than 490 cm (approx. 16 feet) high can be used. A Marconi sail is common. Leeboards, not centerboards, are used. Rudders are commonly used, as are flotation bags or decking with bulkheads. The mast and boom are often aluminum and can be purchased through specialized canoe suppliers. These canoes can be very fast and competitive.

That's what I'm talking about! Wait till I tell you about outrigger sailing canoes, but that's a story for another night. Sleep tight and don't let the bed bugs bite.
