First punt of 2018. Should have called this video "Ben's first punt sail" as last month he got a punt as a surprise 40th birthday present. First time out, and as you can see at the end of the video it was pretty windy. It was also great to see Stirling, sailing his Punt with us.
“It takes a special sort of mindset to truly discover something” - Captain Martin Daly.
Martin Daly was born in Australia but has spent his life searching for some of the best undiscovered surf spots in the most remote parts of the world. He now runs a world renown surf charter business in Indonesia, the Indies Trader fleet. He takes us back to one of his earliest discoveries, the breaks off the coast of the Mentawais, and brings Felicity Palmateer, Mikala Jones, Marlon Gerber, Tatiana Weston-Webb, Anthony Walsh, and Kai Lenny along for the ride.
Special thanks to:
The Indies Trader for the adventure https://www.indiestrader.com/
Peter Morrison and Martin Daly for archival footage.
The National Museum of World Cultures for archival photos.

West Mersea Duckpunts sailing down wind to the Strood on a lovely mild Sunday in February. A very high tide meant that we could sail over the marshes and along the Strood, which is the road that joins the island with the mainland.
Punting on a late October day 2010 to Salcott Creek through punt alley.
The launching and first sail of Daves new punt. "Tipsey Moth" also affectionately known as Richard III due to the colour was launched on 29th January 2012. Fantastic but very cold sail up to Samson's Creek and a messabout in the salt marshes, just what punting is all about.
Jim Coffey fires up the 18 meter Cascada Truchas in an open canoe, breaking the record set twenty years earlier by Steve Fraizer. For more on the historic descent and the Mexico Mission, check out Cross Strokin' 5 and whitewater.ca
An attempt to give some of the flavours of the ocean and try to explain what motivates me to relish challenges such as rowing across the Atlantic Ocean.
"Expeditions are about pitting yourself against nature. This project has frustrated me because much of the struggle has instead been within ourselves (nausea, hunger, exhaustion) and our immediate environment (seats designed during the Spanish Inquisition). Last night though I experienced the addictive sensation I have enjoyed so often on hills and mountains, deserts and rivers. That is the outpouring of “a kind of glory that lights up the mind of a man” and which comes with surviving and thriving in the world’s wild places and relishing the variety, the beauty and the ferocity of nature..."

"Everyone has his or her definition of what it means to be alive. For some, it's waking up in a big city, going to work, watching a soap opera, going to sleep... repeat, day after day. For me, that is the definition of being alive, not feeling alive.
